 | These water once channeled could water all the agricultural land of the country - thus bring prosperity to the farmers. Am I right to say this Maikobia? |
 | Wonderful photo. You killed two birds in one stone. Congratulations maikobia! Thank you very much, Aabel !
You said : "I wish I could visit this place. Only the peace situation is a PROBLEM!"
In fact there's absolutely no problem, there, because it's one of the major touristic attraction, just at the Zambian border (You even don't need to go in Zimbabwe, the falls are also perfectly viewed from Zambia, as they are actually on the border), and the people there are much more interested by their business (tourism) than by the politic.
"Was there any dam to siphon the water to something productive?"
There is ! One of the greatest dam in the world, on this Zambezi river, which gives birth to the Kariba lake !! (See my album about the Kariba lake if you're interested) And of course, it products electricity for Zambia AND for Zimbabwe. I think they have even enough for exportation...
"These water once channeled could water all the agricultural land of the country - thus bring prosperity to the farmers. Am I right to say this Maikobia?"
In fact, Zambia and Zimbabwe do not have real problems with the water. And yes, several parts of the river (which starts in Angola and end in the Indian ocean in Mozambic, after a very long traject) bring prosperity to a lot of regions in several countries. Also in Mozambic there's a large dam... And also, a large part of the Zambezi contribute to the stay of a very large number of animals species, which means numerous national parks and game reserves, attracting a lot of tourists, and tourism in Africa means hard foreign currency and prosperity !...
If, as well in Kenya as in Zimbabwe, Congo, Uganda, and other countries, they could be mature enough to avoid to fight at each political problem, and if they could have serious governements with real qualified managers, most of those countries should be very rich !! The problem is not the water, not the electricity, and not the agriculture ! It's only the bad politic, the high level of corruption and the poor management...
